We are very happy to present two concerts  on Saturday 3rdNovember, 7.30pm and Sunday 4thNovember, 2pm at The Lake Mac Centre, Warners Bay. The Lake Phil will be conducted by its resident conductor, Christopher Bearman OAM in two concerts featuring two different soloists. The program for both has the very popular Symphony No 9 – From the New World- by Dvorak, and  the Overture to the Italian Girl in Algiers-  by Rossini. Saturday evening features Australia’s Champion of Champions trombonist Hannah Gibbons playing the colourful & excitingTromboneConcerto by Rimsky Korsakov. The Sunday matinee features noted Australian Opera singer Livia Brash  singing the Sea Pictures of Edward Elgar.

Dvorak wrote this symphony as a commission from the New York Philharmonic  & it was premiered on December 16th1893 at Carnegie Hall. There are many interesting influences in the work: negro melodies, native American music, and the pentatonic (five notes) of Scottish music. The melody from the second movement known as Goin’Home  is original & later given the words by Dvorak’s student William Arms. This  is such a favourite work that it is one of the most performed symphonies of all. Astronaut Neil Armstrong took a tape of it on his Apollo 11 mission to the moon!

Both concerts are selling on line at sticky tickets or at mbuck@exemail.com.au
